How do you plan to communicate meaning and achieve the requirements of your chosen brief using the four domains of the media theoretical framework? (about 400 words)
My task is to create a Real-Life Story Magazine for a mass market audience of 17-25 years old who expects to be emotionally involved. Bauer already publishes a number of Real-Life Story magazines, but none that cater to this generation, so my publication would complement their existing offerings. I believe that stories about people in their own age range would resonate more with my target audience. Furthermore, it would be aimed at both men and women, and it would be more diverse in terms of gender, race, and sexuality. To appeal to a wider audience, my magazine will cover more style-focused mise-en-scene t
o my intended audience
Furthermore, I will employ sale lines in a more subtle manner to reduce the sensationalist effect and appeal to my target audience, possibly by using lower case and fewer sell lines on the cover.
However, I shall stick to my signature use of bright, primary colours that draw attention.
To assist appeal to and define my target demographic, I'll use a strapline that offers insights into people's lives, with a secondary accent on style.
I'll also add a table of contents.
ONLINE
According to my investigation into the websites that accompany real life story magazines, they are mostly merely a location to buy the main magazine and check the answers to puzzles and games. This shows the possibility of stronger synergy between the magazine and the online, as well as the possibility of developing a more distinct brand identity. This will be accomplished through the use of online exclusive content, photos of the magazine's crew, and selected articles from the magazines. Allowing a personal link between reader and writer would help individuals to identify more deeply. People would be engaged in the magazine's content while yet being encouraged to buy it because the content available online would be limited.
CONVERGENCE
The two products will be connected together to entice magazine or website readers to visit/purchase the other. The magazine will include a variety of calls to action, such as invites to visit the website for puzzle solutions or unique bonus content. On the cover and the contents page, the online address will be prominently displayed. There will be a subscribe button on the internet, as well as adverts for additional benefits, to encourage website visitors to subscribe to the magazine. Finally, to encourage purchase, existing magazine covers will be exhibited on the Internet, and subscribers will be offered a digital edition of the magazine.
